It’s Time for a Change!

Mark Meyer is running for College of the Desert Trustee Area 5! This position has been held by the same person since 1999. As a businessman and advisor in higher education, Mark will bring fresh ideas to the Board on how the College can best support and engage today’s students. After all, the students attending College of the Desert are seeking career enhancement opportunities. Who better to help than someone like Mark, with experience on both sides of the equation?

Mark is committed to ensuring College of the Desert remains a pillar of opportunity in the Coachella Valley, driven by a strong belief in education’s role in economic growth and community strength. Mark's focus will be on enhancing science, engineering and technology training programs to align with local industry needs, equipping students with the skills to succeed and contribute to our community.

The transfer to a four-year institution is a historic element of the Community College System. It is imperative that the College of the Desert prep students who chose to move on to four-year institutions the right knowledge and tools to succeed in that school environment.  Two-year schools need to provide a bridge between high school and four-year schools.  They should not operate as an "extension" to the high school environment but provide a truly postsecondary education.

As a proponent of fiscal responsibility, Mark will advocate for prudent management of the College’s resources. His approach will emphasize directing funds to programs that provide the greatest benefit to students and the community, with a belief that education should create clear pathways to well-paying jobs and career advancement.

In Mark's role as Chair of the COD Alumni Association, he has worked to fortify the connection between the college and the community. Mark's involvement with Rotary further supports this effort by fostering partnerships throughout the community. He will work cooperatively with the College of the Desert Faculty Association , California School Employees Association and the College of the Desert Adjunct Association to bring beneficial change
